Position Summary

The Lurie Center for Autism seeks a full-time Staff Psychologist to join its multidisciplinary outpatient program in Lexington, Massachusetts.

The Staff Psychologist will primarily provide comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological assessments for children, adolescents, and adults with autism spectrum disorder and related neurodevelopmental conditions. The successful candidate will have experience evaluating individuals with complex developmental, cognitive, behavioral, psychiatric, medical, and communication profiles.

The position is designed for a clinician who values high-quality assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and individualized, person-centered care. Depending on the psychologist’s interests, experience, and program needs, the role may also include opportunities to provide psychotherapy, participate in clinical research, supervise trainees, contribute to educational programs, and develop specialized clinical services.

Primary Responsibilities

Neuropsychological and Psychological Assessment

• Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological and psychological evaluations of children, adolescents, and adults with autism and related neurodevelopmental conditions.

• Evaluate individuals with complex presentations, including intellectual disability, limited or alternative communication, neurological or genetic conditions, psychiatric comorbidity, and significant medical or behavioral needs.

• Prepare timely, clinically useful reports that include individualized recommendations for treatment, education, transition planning, vocational functioning, independent living, and community participation.

• Provide feedback to patients, families, caregivers, schools, community clinicians, and other members of the care team.

• Use neurodiversity-affirming, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and person-centered approaches to assessment.

Interdisciplinary Clinical Care

• Collaborate with psychologists, physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, social workers, doctors, research staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary team.

• Participate in clinical case conferences, team meetings, and care-planning discussions.

• Coordinate with schools, community providers, agencies, and other systems involved in the patient’s care.

• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional, departmental, and institutional standards.

• Participate in clinical quality-improvement and program-development activities.

Psychotherapy and Clinical Intervention

Depending on the psychologist’s interests, training, and service needs, opportunities may include:

• Providing individual, family, or group psychotherapy to children, adolescents, or adults.

• Providing parent or caregiver consultation.

• Developing focused clinical interventions or groups addressing identified patient and family needs.

• Collaborating with other clinicians to integrate assessment findings into ongoing treatment.

Research and Scholarship

Psychologists interested in research may have opportunities to:

• Participate in clinical and translational research involving autism, neurodevelopment, assessment, treatment outcomes, lifespan development, or health disparities.

• Collaborate with investigators and research teams across the Lurie Center, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mass General Brigham, and affiliated academic institutions.

• Contribute to study design, measurement selection, participant characterization, data interpretation, and dissemination.

• Participate in preparation of manuscripts, presentations, posters, clinical guidelines, and grant proposals.

• Develop research projects based on the psychologist’s clinical or scientific interests.

• Translate clinical observations and research findings into improved assessment and treatment practices.

Teaching, Supervision, and Professional Development

Depending on experience and interest, the Psychologist may:

• Supervise psychology trainees, fellows, or practicum students.

• Participate in didactic teaching and case-based education.

• Present to interdisciplinary clinicians, trainees, educators, families, or community providers.

• Participate in continuing education, peer consultation, and professional-development activities.

• Develop an area of specialization within autism assessment, intervention, or research.

Required Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, or a closely related field from an APA- or CPA-accredited program.

• Completion of an APA- or CPA-accredited predoctoral internship.

• Postdoctoral training in clinical neuropsychology, pediatric psychology, autism and developmental disabilities, or a closely related area.

• Current Massachusetts psychologist license or eligibility for Massachusetts licensure.

• Training and experience in neuropsychological or psychological assessment.

• Experience working with autistic individuals or individuals with related neurodevelopmental conditions.

• Ability to evaluate patients with complex developmental, cognitive, behavioral, psychiatric, communication, or medical presentations.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary clinical environment.

• Commitment to ethical, culturally responsive, inclusive, and person-centered care.

Preferred Qualifications

• Formal postdoctoral specialization in clinical neuropsychology.

• Experience assessing individuals across multiple developmental stages, including childhood, adolescence, transition-age years, and adulthood.

• Experience working with individuals who have intellectual disability, complex communication needs, or significant behavioral challenges.

• Experience providing psychotherapy or other evidence-based clinical interventions.

• Experience with research, scholarly publication, program evaluation, or quality improvement.

• Experience supervising or teaching psychology trainees.

• Eligibility for an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School at a rank commensurate with experience.

Clinical and Academic Effort

The Staff Psychologist’s primary responsibility will be neuropsychological and psychological assessment. The specific distribution of assessment, psychotherapy, research, teaching, supervision, and program-development activities will be determined based on the psychologist’s interests, qualifications, productivity, and the needs of the Lurie Center.

Opportunities for protected research or program-development time may be available depending on funding, active projects, institutional priorities, and the psychologist’s scholarly activities.
